CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

WHAT IS THE
CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE?

The Try Sports Centre of Excellence is an annual programme to support the development of junior Touch players.

We integrate current best in class Touch coaching with a positive, high-performance learning environment. Coached by current international touch athletes, we'll give players the chance to learn from role models. Players will take ownership of their learning and development both on and off the pitch and the skills acquired in this programme will be valuable not only for each athlete's future in sport but also in their everyday life.

Our aspiration is to cultivate and inspire the next generation of leaders through this programme.

THE STRUCTURE

We plan to initiate 2 Centres of Excellence:

a North and a South centre.

The England Touch regions will be split as follows:

North = North West, North East, Midlands and East.

South = South West, South East and West.

Spaces are limited to 120 per centre: 40 junior, 30 youth, 40 senior.

Each season will run from September to May annually. Our first full season will start in September 2025.

This is the first year for the programme. Initially, location of training will be based on proximity for the majority of selected players. Player numbers may vary depending on player availability and player potential - this is at the discretion of the selection team. We are aspiring to a 50:50 gender split at the COE.

THE HIGH PERFORMANCE PATHWAY

The Centre of Excellence has been developed in partnership with the England Touch Association and is a recognised part of the high performance pathway.

The Touch curriculum covered, the topics of the online learning modules, and the structure of our sessions, has been designed to support player development, both on and off the field, and prepare athletes to compete at a representative Open's level in Touch.
